Open Letter to Muslims

LAST UPDATED | 22 December 2009

In the name of Allah the Most Gracious and the Most Merciful

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Asalaamu Alaykum

I understand that many people  recieve   requests for Donations and during this recession it has become harder for people to give. I would however argue that considering that 100's of Masjids exist and none  of them  helps New Muslim Converts (P4E) in the G.T.A. The reason for mentioning this is because I find it hard to believe that with almost one million Muslims in Canada and with all the outreach and interfaith dialogue none of these organizations have taken the New Converts seriously.

I think the time has come for Muslims to take a moment out of their busy schedules and reflect on the gift of Islam. It is a gift that as a convert has not reached my family and friends. I of course understand that Allah is the guide but it still hurts when I see my father die as a Non Muslim and my grand mother and grand father and close friends. I attend Janaza (Funeral prayers) for my Muslim Community in hopes that Allah keeps them away from any punishments and gives them Al Firdos but with my own family I am left to wonder what it would be like if my mother became Muslim and died as a believer.

I guess part of my drive in what I do with P4E comes from my sincere desire for guidance for mankind and especially my family. But forgive me for saying this but I sometimes think to myself that my efforts of reaching out are better served to the average Canadian then to most Islamic Organizations.  With Canadians for example they do not care how long my beard is or whether I am a Salafi or Tabliqi or Sufi. They are more interested in how I treat them and what kind of person I am.

It has been my experience as a convert/revert to Islam that Muslims will find a reason to fight about anything and it is EXTREMELY difficult for them to get along when in general we share far more in common then what may divide us. But when I deal with an average Canadian and he or she hears that I am adamant about cooperating with authorities for justice they consider me to be a decent human being. Whether I play Hockey or Golf or I listen to music is not their concern and they appreciate good deeds.

The point that I am trying to make is that we as Muslims all believe in the 5 Pillars and the basics of Islam yet we continue to find faults within individuals. Overall, I realize that there are some very good Muslims in the World but I think it's time we accept that the vast majority of us are in need of a complete makeover.

I want to make very clear that I do not believe that the Canadian Government and the West are all out to get Muslims. I do however believe that a small number of people from all walks of life whether in the Government, Police, Masjids, Churches etc. are problematic but I will not stereotype an entire people based on a few individuals. We always complain as Muslims that we are stereotyped yet we do the exact same thing.

I would like to set a standard for cooperation with authorities for the Muslims within an Islamic framework.

If a person or persons is immanently going to cause harm to him/herself or to a person/persons we would immediately contact the proper authorities i.e.. R.C.M.P. or Police

If a person/persons are talking about un-Islamic things like harming people or property then we would immediately talk to them and correct them. If we could not then we would contact someone who may persuade the person of their wrong thinking i.e.. Imam, family member, community leader, friend.

The reason for putting this out there is a lot of people accuse the P4E of being spies or agents for the Government and I wanted to make it clear as to how we deal with misguided Muslims if they are sent to us or we come across them in the Community.

Also, as for our finances in the last 5 years we have never been asked by any donor  to show our Bank statements and as a Not for Profit it was not required but we are willing if asked by serious potential donors or past donors to produce our Bank statements for the last 5 years in order to be transparent.

Finally, I would like to say almost 100% of our funding comes from the President of Dubai Muhammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

Now putting all of that aside if you are still on board I would like to now explain our plan.

We have in the last few years built a strong relationship with C.S.I.S. and the R.C.M.P. along with members of the Canadian and U.S. Government and thus have positioned ourselves as an Organization that could help in receiving some of the "Toronto 18" members along with Omar Kadr who could participate in a program that offers Theological Detox. We have a Community accountability component along with Social services and Islamic Detox which includes classes on the Biography of the Prophet peace be upon him, Aqueeda (Belief), Manners, Jihad, Fiq and qualifications of a Scholars.

We have already been contacted and visited twice by the U.S. Administration about our program as well as R.CM.P. agents who have come to know about our intentions. Member of Parliament Mr. Derek Lee who is also a National Security expert is a supporter of the program and we have contacted the Prime Minister and members of Public Safety.

The missing ingredient is however a serious commitment and support from Muslims in Canada to this program and that makes Government Officials nervous that we are not going to have the support necessary if the funding stops from Overseas. I would like to make clear that it is not because of  lack of support or potential money from Members of the Government or Government Agencies. It is because it has to be a program by the Muslims and for the Muslims and part of the Dawah to them is that we cooperate for Justice for FREE. Furthermore, some of the misguided Muslims who attend the program will discount us a proxy for the Government and hurt our effectiveness if our funding is from the Government.

It is for this I am requesting help in fund raising for the P4E Centre. Please donate online at www.p4e.ca

May Allah reward you

Please forward this letter to all Brothers and Sisters who may be interested in helping. Thank You

Wa salaam
